Q: What’s one thing everyone thinks is simple until they try it?
A: Writing short answers. Brevity is quite the workout.
My name is Nicholas Christian, but almost everyone calls me Nick. The earliest version of this site appeared in 2005 for a college class assignment.1 It was experimental and shaped mostly by whatever HTML I could figure out that week. Over time the site kept evolving. Some years it expanded into full layouts and navigation, other years shrinking into a single image. There were periods when it went offline completely, and times when I redesigned it simply to see what I could do. chr.st is the current version.2 It is minimal and built with a clearer sense of what belongs here. It is my personal online presence and home for things I create and want to share.
The domain chr.st is a compressed version of my last name, Christian. The dot replaces the first "i," and the rest of the ending, "ian," is removed. It is not a religious reference, just a modern, intentional simplification.

Q: Exploration rule #1?
A: Always zoom out before panicking.
Q: Do you have a plan?
A: Of course! It just refuses to look like one until it works.
1 I learned a great deal and ended up earning an A in the class.
2 Earlier versions existed under various names and formats.
